Image Bank - Minimum Depth of Field

This photograph is showing a landscape viewer at a seaside but the viewer is in main focus where as the background is less clear. This is making the viewe the main focus of the photograph instead of the background.

This photograph of a snake captures the fine detailing of its skin aswell as its bold colours. The background is completely blurred out and the snake is in full focus.

These photographs are showing the minimum depth of field using natural objects. These photographs show the detailing of the flowers and leaves whilst blurring the background, the first photograph is showing the fencing not in focus so that the bold colour of the flower is clearer.
This photograph is showing a row of diet coke cans and the central one is the only one in which the writing is clear enough to see, this shows that although the cans are in a row and showing depth, the middle one is the only one in focus.

Image Bank - Close Up

These photographs have all been taken and the technique of close up has been used. This is a good technique as it shows the intricate details of objects which our eyes would not normally see. Close up photography is good at showing the details on animals like the eyes of a reptile and cat as the picture shows. Due to it being shot at such a close angle it shows the details and colouring of the eyes and area surrounding the eye. The photograph of the spider is showing the details of the hairs and colouring of its hair and skin. This is something our human eye does not pick up. The photograph of the dog shows the detailing of its nose, especially as the camera has focused solely on the nose. The photograph of the cherry covered in sugar and lips shows the granules of sugar stuck on the cherry and the lines in the lips both are things which the human eye would struggle to pick up if we looked at them at a distance.  I like the way that close up photographs capture the detailing which we stuffle to see in everyday life.

Image Bank - Wide Angle

These two photographs shot at wide angle are both capturing brides but from different angles. The first is capturing the bridge from below and the other is on the top. However they both have the same effect where the bridge appears to get smaller as it goes into the distance which captures depth.

These two photographs are capturing the landscape. The first is in London and due to all of the skyscrapers and the low angle the photograph is shot at it makes the buildings appear to lean inwards and so make the bottom of the photograph appear wide. The second is of a 'u' shaped river around and inside a rocky area. Due to the central rock and the central positioning of the camera this photograph makes the rocks look as if they are leaning outward and so making the whole landscape look wide.

These two photographs capture one object which is close to the camera and so in focus and makes the rest of the background appear to be smaller and going into the horizon. In the first the dog is the main focus and so blocks some of the background which makes the straw field it is in to look wide. In the second it is a young boys shoe which is the main focus and so it looks larger than the background making it appear to be lengthier than it actually is. The use of objects/animals gives the photograph a focus and so makes the background appear wider in contrast to what is in focus.

Image Bank - Multiple Flash

These four photographs are showing the use of multiple image using human models. When the different flashes go off the models have moved either their arms to create a motion of them movie their hands above their head like in the photograph above or simply just moving their position like the photographs of the young boy, Paul or the older man. This is a way to create q multiple image without having to edit all the photographs together.

These two photographs are of objects as the subjects. The first photograph is showing a deck of cards as it is either thrown or dropped, only one card is bright and that is because that is the card which was at the front and so the flash was focused on that card. The second is of a knife being swiped down onto a tomato or an apple, this captures the motions of the hand aswell as the knife.

Image Bank - Multiple Imagery

This photograph is showing the multiple image of a shadow and a face being combined to make it appear that the shadow is made from the face.

This photograph is showing a girl as she does a cartwheel. It is several images which have all been edited together into one image to show all the motions in which the girl goes through whilst doing this. It is several images which have been edited together to show the slow motion movement.

The last four images are all showing multiple images where two pictures mainly those of landscapes being merged into the faces/head shapes of people. I think that these style of photographs are so interesting to look at as it is so cleverly edited together that it appears that they are blended together to form one photograph.

Work Diary - Wide Angle and Close Up

In one of our lessons we were sent out to do a joint shoot of 'close-up' and 'wide angle'.
The close up aspect was easy as it involved placing the camera close to the subject and focusing on the object. I quite liked doing this as I liked finding all the details in which my eyes would not have picked up themselves.

The wide angle shots were harder to capture, as there was not many places around the college which could capture good pictures. So if I was to redo the wide angle photographs I would like to go to somewhere other than the college but due to the short time I had to do this shoot I could not go far.

If I was to redo this shoot I would like to do close ups of more animals and maybe facial features like eyes as I feel these have details which our eyes do not see and so the photographs produced would be interesting to look at and eye catching

Work diary - Minimum depth of field

This shoot was part of the 3 shoots we did within our first lesson, it was to develop a range of skills. In the minimum depth of field task we had to take a picture but choose the subject which was in focus as the camera usually will focus on whatever is in the centre.

I found this shoot was easy as it simple to get the camera to focus on what I wanted too, whilst I was also learning the skill of how to have control over the camera and the subject.

If I was to redo this shoot I would try and use different subjects and backgrounds to make it look clearer as to which effect has been applied into the photograph. It is a skill I would like to use further into my project.

Work diary - image within an image

In this shoot we went out in groups and had a frame to use in our group. We had to create some picture within a picture photographs. We also had to take a video to place in one of the frame in a still photograph.

The easiest part of this was to shoot the actual pictures as the editing for the final image was very difficult and time consuming as I had never done this before, especially when attaching the video in the frame.

For the video I was trying to shoot a video but then we ran out of time and had to go in so I had to go back and use a blooper of Gracie falling over. However the video may not of been amazing but it was good practise for the concept of putting a video within a photograph.

In the future I would like to get a better video and have futher practise of editing them all together. I would also like to involve this element within my beauty project and have a still picture of someone facing a mirror and then attach a video of someone applying their makeup as I feel this would be a good illusion.
