Project proposal

For my project the initial starting point I have chosen is beauty which is a broad topic but after starting the primary research stage I have decided it is the ideal topic for me. 

After looking at work from other photographers it has inspired me to try and approach this broad topic in aan exciting and simple manner.  I have had several simple ideas, one being some still life photographs of beauty products such as lipsticks, nail polishes and brushes etc.  

Another idea I have had was to take several photographs as someone apply their makeup/does their hair, I would create a multiple image and/or an animation to show the stages in which someone would go through when using these beauty products.  Similarly to the work of Alexander Khoklov i feel it would be interesting to create patterns an images through the use of makeup onto models faces.

All of Khoklov's  work is hand drawn into his models faces and doesn't use photoshop apart from when he is doing the final edits,  I feel this adds uniqueness to his work as the designs drawn have only been used for his work,  not only is it unique but it also adds an interesting element to his work as the work created is fascinating to look at. I feel that this is something I would like to incorporate into my work by using beauty products to make patterns and an overall image on the models face as I feel it would also make my work more interesting.

I have also found the work of Yulia Gorbachenko and Jamie Nelson inspiring.  Gorbachenko's work is simplistic as his work is used in several fashion magazines and he uses bold colours on his models and this creates a simple but bold statement.  I could use this element in my work and create makeup designs using bold colours and take simple portraiture shots from different angles and use different lighting as well as different editing techniques.  Nelson is also a beauty and fashion photographer for magazines,  however his work is interesting as he uses a mixture of close up shots aswell as full body shots. His makeup is also bold as he uses items like glitter and colours for the hair as well as face.  This makes his photographs on a whole more eye catching and unique. 

I am going to start this project by shooting photographs of still life makeup products. I will buy makeup products and brushes etc in a range of colours to then show the contrasting of colours of the products.  I  can also take close up shots of the coloured powders on the brushes. After I will then start my work on models,  I will make fancy designs using makeup aswell as doing simple and bold designs aswell.
