Rankin
Rankin was born as John Rankin Waddell in 1966 and is a British portrait and fashion photographer. Rankin made his name in publishing by founding the magazine dazed and confused with Jefferson Hack in 1992.
This photograph is showing a macaroon with different colours on every layer, this is to contrast the colours as they are all bold. I like the way that all of the colours contrast as it makes the photograph eye catching. The model has got a coloured sugar on her lips to go with the theme of sweet/cake. To create this image I think Rankin would have used the high key technique as the background is white and the rest of the colours stand out and this is the effect created from using the high key technique.
This is a photomontage of two different pictures / makeup looks but they are both using the same colour scheme, by using this there is a pink and yellow theme to all of them images. I like the way that the picture of the eye shows the boldness of both of the colours used.
This photograph is showing a model with a flower painted on her face, her hair also has several different colours running through it.This captures the idea that flowers Are colourful objects and this is represented through Rankins' use of colour. By having a black background, the colours on the models face and hair stand out against the dark background.
Rankin focused a whole project on models lips with different paints/glitters/designs on them. He uses a close up teqnique so that the designs on the lips are captured clearly. Also by using this technique the sole focus of the image is the lips whereas if it was of the models whole face then the focus would job no longer be on the lips.
I would like to try and reproduce similar images to the ones in Rankin's lip project as I feel this could be explored with several different designs and looks.
