Work Diary - Personal Shoot 2

My second shoot was inspired by Alexander Khoklov. I decided to do a similar pop art theme to his work as I thought it was an interesting way to show beauty. I did this shoot at home and applied the makeup in the style of pop art by hand. I then sat at a tripod and took several photographs in which to capture the look.

The image on the right is one of my photographs pre-touch up. The colours of the makeup were not as bold as i would've liked them to be, so by editing them on photoshop i have enchanted the colours and made them more bold and it creates more of a pop-art effect as it looks more similar to a comic book etc. I also decided to change the hair colour to green as the blonde hair did not make the features of the face paint stand out, whereas with green hair it has made the image more eye-catching.

When editing this photograph i decided not to edit it with photoshop as much as the above image, this is because i feel this image has a good composition and the colours of the models face were fairly bold and due to the positioning of the lights it stands out more against the skin tone. To improve this image i could make the black lines and colours bolder like in the above image.

If I was to redo this shoot I would like to complete it in a studio so that the lighting was bright enough to pick up all of the detail. I found this shoot difficult to do as it was time consuming to apply the makeup and also it was difficult to get the lighting right to capture images with good composition.

In my next shoot I am going to experiment with lipsticks and different lighting by using gels over the lights to alter the colour of the light shining onto the tubes of lipstick.
